Lipo |
|
Have decided to install Lipo on my MRE, but without the need to dremel any of the metal away from the rear mount. I've initially made up to brackets to hold a 4900 Trakpower, one in the traditional 'lie down' position for the battery and the other with it standing on edge. Having looked at it carefully I think standing up will be OK as all the extra weight from lead weights required to bring the car up to the minimum 1500g's will be stuck to the middle of the chassis under the belt.
I'm now just trying to source a couple of aluminium posts to secure the plate to and then should be ready.
If you can suggest any car compomemt that is 15mm tall and around 5mm in diameter that has either M3 thread at both ends or a hole through to allow a M3 screw to pass let me know. Or know anyone that has access to a lathe that could make a couple of these items for me that would be great.

I think that I have something similar in my pitbox that could be modified to perform this easily, and.... it is Tamiya blue as well.. YAY :smt002

Cheers guys, and thanks for the offers of help.
I'll bring the brace that I have made to club on Sunday and see what fits best.

2 x 4900 Trakpower Lipo's arrived today - so all I need now are the additional posts that No. 46 is kindly making for me and I'll be ready for West London.
Interestingly when I spoke to Mike at Modeltech this week and told him how I intended to mount the Lipo's in the car he stated that this was their chosen method for the Corally as well - and we all now how well they are going in the STCC- so it doesn't appear to adversely affect a car's handling at all.

Ok, here are some photos of the mounting I have decided upon.
First photo is of the two brackets I made from 3.5mm GRP ( I had this lying around from the days I raced 1/8th off-road and used to make by own disc brakes), with the one on the left being on 10mm posts to mount the Lipo flat, but it did stick out a fair way from the chassis, and the second mounting is for the Lipo to be side on.
The second photo is of the mount on 15mm posts, the third with the Lipo taped in place. This seems to work OK but have decided to put a top brace on to really secure it, with photo four showing how the brace will eventually be positioned once I get some posts made up for it.
Good luck with sorting out the mounts for your own Lipo, we'll compare notes at the next club meeting.

nice one looks relly good what iv done is vrey, errr protopype and needs to be made neater but never the less i think it should work and will hold.i have also gone for the top plate idea but only in the middle so im going to have to not roll the car to hard. :smt003

ok so this is what iv got
this shows the bottem of the car where iv have made bits of plastic to protect the cell balnceing lead at the frount and to make it more airodynamic
this is showing bacily what ian has done but just a bit higher i think also you can see at the bottem there is a mount that goes around the cells to keep them relly tight and as i mentioned the plate at the top is only in the middle
same with cells can you guss what the cells are
and thats about it, but dw this is more of a template atm the final parts will be made out of somthing alot cooler.
