It should have been betterHi All and thankyou for your kind words but it should have been a lot better!
Having practiced all day on Friday I had got the car set up pretty well and had adjusted the gearing to suit the long straight and I was using the new Reedy EFRA lipos for the first time.
Saturday morning saw a superpole shoot out to sort the heats into some sort of ability. As tyres were going to be an issue all weekend I went out and did only six laps and qualified 3rd in the top heat.
With qualifying being on a round by round basis with your best 3 results from 5 counting, In the first two rounds of qualifying I took it steady and got 4th and 7th overall. in the 3rd round the car developed a lack of rear grip, doing 360's at every corner so I pulled it in to save on tyres. Having changed the diff and spool and checked everything else visible I went out for round 4 and quess what it still did it. I carried on only to find that the problem was with the belting inside a tyre. This I discovered when the tyre exploded, completely removing the tyre surface from the side wall. Everyone else then set about checking their tyres by putting them on a tyre truer, spinning them up and seeing which ones ballooned, this being an indication that the internal belting was coming apart. This same problem happened to Olly last year.
So onto round 5. With everything checked, I was stood on the rostrum waiting for the start (which was often delayed by missing marshalls) when my handset started to beep indicating low battery voltage. The taem ran around like headless chickens, grabed the first radio they could find, removed the battery pack and through it up to me. Only problem was they'd knicked Ollys who has the same KO radio but for some reason a different size battery pack. His was a pre launch version I think. By the time I got sorted there was only time for 14 laps and I ended up in the B final!
Looking at the lap times of the B final competitors they ranged from 16.55 secs for me down to 18.5 secs, so I knew it was going to be a FUN start. Sure enough lap 1 I went from 6th to 1st and then got demolished by someone who didn't know how to brake without using my car. Rounds 2 and 3 started in much the same way and in both I was 10th after the first lap and first by halfway, finishing comfortably ahead in final 2 and easing off to keep out of trouble in final 3.
Overall it was a fantastic weekend where the locals really look after you. I was pleased to get a big pot fro the shelf and Dad has calmed down and is not still looking to strangle someone.
Highlights of the weekend include seeing Alan Bickersteff hit a Marshall with his car at full speed, knocking the marshall clean in the air. Oh and Dad being similarly hit on the ankle after a race had finished, shouting some expletive rather loudly causing the whole place to go quiet and the errant 9 year old driver to poo himself on the spot!
We have stopped off in Halifax for a few days practice ahead of this weekend national, so keep a look out on the live feed on BRCA-TC to see if its been worthwhile or not.
Cheers

There was only one Photon amongst all the TOP cars and that was driven by Niels who could get a bag of nails aroung quite quickly anyway.

Dont read too much into Saturdays scoresJust in case anyone thinks I've discovered a hidden talent, my current 7th place in the national standings is more to do with a rain affected round than my driving skills. Still I'll be chuffed to hell if I can end up in the B final.

Don't do yourself down, 7th is 7th.
Keep it up, and if it rains in future rounds so much the better by the sounds of it.

C Final.....Well I ended up in the C final and finished 6th. I'm pleased with that cos there were 66 pro stock drivers and very few of them couldnt drive.
I did hit a problem though with interference on one particular part of the track. Despite using 2.4 I found that the system would shut down momentarily apply the brakes and turn sharp left. I walked the track with the car and watched it happen.
Ended up putting in a 27meg module and problem cured.
I am begining to wonder if with so many people now using spektrum which operates on the same 72 frequencies as mobile phones, wireless laptops, Iphones, Blue tooth links in cars etc whether a weaker signal can be pushed aside by a stronger signal. Anyone got any thoughts......?

I did also hear of some 2.4 interference at bigger meetings and was told to keep my Transmitter above 11v. So in went a lipo pack to my Universe and have never experienced any problems. And only drops below 11v after about 3/4 weeks without charging.

The way Spektrum works in the 2.4 band is really quite simple, once the initial handshake has taken place between tx and rx they are bonded together, if for some reason it has to hop frequency it will tell the rx where it is going, now if for some reason that stop is not available it will go into a search pattern until it picks up the rx again, if the rx does not recieve a signal within a certain period of time it will go into a failsafe mode. Now while there is now quite a bit of clutter within the 2.4 band, bluetooth operates within a much tighter frequency band, there should still be quite a bit of room for your racing. As per Mr B's post the more likely candidate for the severing of the bond is a lack of transmitter power.
Hope that helps Cam.
