During my more mad moments I have put a 9x1 in my old B4,  and even  went down the line of a 5.5 which was just insane.

2wd

In rear motored cars 7.5 is what is now commonly used with lipos, 6.5 with nimhs. 7.5 will be fine, not to mad but still with plenty of pace. I ran a 7.5 in my b4 and found it very soft but nothing ever overtook me in a straight line, also i believe most of the soft feel came from the speed controller. It probably felt soft because i used to ran a 5700kv mamba max previously which is around 5.5-6.5 area but that was just mental as many of you have seen it wheelie up and down the slopes of coastal.

4wd

I run the orion vortex 5.5 with trakpower 3200 in my d4. The last time i ran the car was at the m-k grand prix, indoor, carpet and wooden floor and it was f q8 ing mental. The car accelerated like the preverbial rat up a drain pipe on the carpet sections.  Its amazing how much propulsion these things have when you have complete traction from the mini pin tyres.

This link is the video of the A final where most guys where running 6.5.

i have only used the d4 outside once and 5.5 is probably to much. i would say that with lipo, 6.5 would be the ideal combo.
