How long will the bearings last |
|
How long should the oversized bearings last in a Brushless motor or is this question the same as how long is a peice of string ??? :?:

If you ask this question of 10 people you'll get 12 answers!!
Just keep checking the bearings after each meeting to ensure there is no side play on the bearing where the shaft exits the case. Provided there is no play everything is OK.

Aslong as you look after them just as long as a normal bearing. Clean them out after each meeting, unless the track is very dusty. I would have in your pitbox a can of compressed air. Never spray motor spray into the can - you will kill the motor as though the stuff can evaporate if it seeps between the windings it can cause corrotion, which duffs the motor.
Get a soft lint free cloth, your compressed air and carefully clean it out. I would say put some cleaner on a tissue and clean the rotor this way, dont spray on it direct.
When you do take the motor apart be very very careful of the spacers on the arm. I would recommend only removing the can end of the motor rather than the solder tab end. This end is just a cap with the large bearing in it, no sensors as such. You can then tip the motor down into your hand, remove the washers/spacers, and then carefully pull out the arm, along with the spacers on the other end.
Have a look at Racer this month, they have a novak opened out.
Lastly, once cleaned, make sure you oil the bearings with a good quality oil - NOT 3-in-1 as I saw someone doing once! The oil should be a thin type suited to bearings or bushings and not be harsh like sme mineral oils. One drop is enough - honestly.
