Here She Is In All Her Glory

the new and updated 2008 car

There is a lot of stuff going on here Ill let Team Sanders explain if they want to or you could work it out for your self there are a couple of nice touches here which you may not spot straight away but we could all do this to our cars to a certain extent  :D

Note the cells are not in the car it takes the trackpower 4900 Lipo as pictured in Photo one

I'll let others guess before I reveal the theory behind the concept. It could be quite interesting to see what people think about it.

It doesn't take Lipo 4900s only 3200s, we would hit the driveshaft otherwise.

We're also thinking of a completely new chassis after 2006Bs shakedown at Southend.

Regards fitting the lipo, I guess this is due to the lip on what was the Yoke chassis ? If so could you not remove the lip and simply add a carbon strengthaning bar at all ?

Could the chassis border on ground effects at all ?? I remember years back when I race a guy produced a Pro-10 chassis that was molded with ventury tunnels to induce grip at speed.

Either way it is good to see your still working on designs, not many people put their neck out to do such a project any more

The only reason why 3200s can fit and not 4900 is because the 'mod' was designed around 3200s as that is all we had available at the time. As is the norm with these projects you always run out of time towards the end, so the next version will probably provide adequate room for 4900s.

With regards to a 'ground effect' design, that was the idea but it is very difficult to seal the bodyshell to the chassis unlike a unity construction on full-size touring cars, so some of the low pressure and hence aerodynamic gain is lost through the gaps. However we have tried to keep the undertray completely sealed without any cooling holes.

Although to be honest if we did a back-to-back test with and without the undertray I probably wouldn't notice any difference!!!

It is harder on the tourers to get the seal your after, mainly sue to the moving arms of the steering and rear suspension. Do you not find it hinders the roll of the car in corners ? One thing most chassis tuners are looking at was to get the car as thin as possible, allowing for more chassis roll.

Either way, still impressed. I'll come and have a proper nose at Eastbourne :D

Jo, we raised both front and rear roll centres to try and protect the outer edges, which worked. Unfortunately the next STCC meeting we'll be attending is West London so feel free to come and have a look then.

Post RE Ground Effects Reply with quote
I think you'll find ground effects are banned under BRCA rules.

I remember a couple of instances from years gone.

One was a full ground effect 1/8th scale F1 car with full sliding skirts, the complete works!, however I think it was this that led to the ban.

More recently the MR4Team version had a problem at Nationals as it had small venturi at the rear of the chassis which contravened the regulations.
